Government Engineering College, Haveri was established in the year 2007 by Government of Karnataka with the sole intention of imparting technical education to the rural mass and down trodden at reasonably cheaper rate so that it can elevate the life standards of rural people. The dream of Government of Karnataka is well realized through structured efforts put forth by a dedicated team of the institution.

1. Civil Engineering Department was started in the year 2007. Apart from academic programmes, the department also undertakes testing and design consultancy services from government departments as well private and semi private sectors. The department has highly qualified faculty of which few are having Ph.D. degrees. Department has well equipped laboratories.
Department is recognized as the center for the third party inspections for different Government of Karnataka Projects . Department has recently started a P.G. Course in Structural Engineering which is a extension centre of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum.
2. Electronics & Communication Department was started in the year 2007 for imparting state-of the- art education and training in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. With an intake of 60 students the department has grown steadily and the total strength is 178. The first batch is came out.
The faculty strength of the department is 12, including 3 assistant professors, 7 Lecturers and 2 Guest faculties. The faculty always strives for imparting better knowledge to the students and works as a team in all departmental activities.
The department has all the laboratories as per the VTU syllabus.The department consists of well ventilated class rooms. The department has its own seminar hall and tutorials with higher end facilities.
3. Computer Science Engineering
“Computer Science or Computing science (abbreviated CS) is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and practical techniques for their implementation in computer systems”.
The department of Computer Science and Engineering started from the beginning of the college.The department intake is 60. The forerunner in the field of technology, the department seeks to evolve towards excellence and to adapt to itself to the rapid advancement in specialized fields.

The computer science department has got 10 teaching, 2 non – teaching staff and more than 150 students are studying in different semester.

The department has well equipped class rooms and labs. Class rooms are spacious, well furnished and well ventilated for students providing good environment for learning.
- The department has got enough number of Computers in the lab with the required softwares installed in them.
4. The Department Of English which comes under Humanities branch aims to provide the needed skills in aspects of both communication and personality development. The department has the major role to play in the all round activities of the academic program which is very essential to strive in the competitive world. The language presents the knowledge and the skill of presentation is based on the language competency and we aim to make our students to acquire better communication skills and language proficiency.
