Scholarship Examination in India

NMAT by GMAC is conducted for admission to MBA/PGDM programme. Since 2015, Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) administers the management examination. There was 7% increase in exam registration last year (NMAT 2018). The total registrations closed at 88,454 in 2018 compared to 82,928 in 2016. The launch of new test preparation material along with the opening of 58 NMAT exam centers in 44 cities in India and 4 international cities have increased the accessibility of the exam to the candidates.

NMAT 2019 Eligibility Criteria

Given below are the eligibility conditions that a candidate must satisfy:

  • Nationality- Both Indian and NRI candidates can apply
  • Minimum Qualification- 50% marks in Graduation; appearing candidates can also apply
  • Age- Upper age limit is 25 years
  • Work Experience of two or more years after graduation is favored

NMAT 2019 Registration

For the convenience of candidates, NMAT by GMAC 2019 Registration process is conducted in online mode. The application procedure shall commence from July 03, 2019 at the official website.

The steps to register for NMAT 2019 are as follows:

  1. Visit the official website of NMAT by GMAC and search for ‘registration’ link
  2. Click on ‘new user’ and enter details like email ID, phone number, password, etc
  3. You will get a unique user id and password on the registered email id or contact number

Step 2: Form Filling

  1. Provide your personal details, academic details, work experience, programme
  2. Upload a scanned copy of your recent passport size photograph in JPEG format

Step 3: Payment of Registration Fee

NMAT 2019 Scheduling Process

  • Candidates who have paid the registration fee will receive a Username and Password within 24 hours on the registered email id.
  • Scheduling for NMAT 2019 is expected to begin from July 3, 2019.

The details regarding scheduling of NMAT by GMAC 2019 are given below:

  • Candidates will have to pick their preferred time slot, date, andcentre of examination from the given options.
  • The scheduling for NMAT 2019 is done on first come first serve basis.
  • Candidates are provided the option of scheduling one test attempt at a time.
  • Once the scheduling is done, a confirmation email from person VUE intimating the details of NMAT 2019 exam is sent. Details such as date, time, centre of the exam, etc. are included.

NMAT 2019 Test Retake

  • Candidates can retake NMAT by GMAC after the first attempt.
  • However, the exam schedule for the retake of NMAT by GMAC 2019 can be done 15 days after the commencement of the first attempt.
  • The exam scheduling window remains open and candidates can reschedule their exam according to their convenience.

NMAT 2019 Admit Card

In the first week of September 2019, GMAC will release the admit card for NMAT 2019 on the official website. The steps to download NMAT by GMAC 2019 Admit card are:

  1. Go to the official website of NMAT by GMAC and click on ‘Download Admit Card’ link
  2. Enter your registered email id and password.
  3. Your hall ticket will appear on the screen. Check all the important details and download it.
  4. Take print out of NMAT 2019 Admit Card and carry it to the test centre along with a photo id proof.

Discrepancy in NMAT Admit Card

Candidates can contact NMAT by GMAC helpdesk (7863008300/ nmatsupport@gmac.com) in case of any discrepancy. The possible errors/ queries may include:

  • If your name or any other personal information is misspelled/ incorrect
  • If your photograph is not visible
  • If you are unable to download admit card despite successful registration

NMAT 2019 Exam Centers

  • NMAT by GMAC 2019 will be held at 58 test centres across 44 cities throughout India and at 4 International centres.
  • The choice to select preferred exam centre is given at the time of registration.
  • Candidates have to fill the choices of exam centers in the stipulated time frame. After passing the deadline, candidates cannot edit the application form.
  • Generally, GMAC allots the chosen center. In case of non-allotment of the preferred NMAT Exam Centers 2019, GMAC shall allot the center at a nearby center.

NMAT Exam Pattern

  • NMAT by GMAC 2019 is a computer-based test.
  • Candidates appearing for the exam are expected to have basic knowledge of operating computer.
  • The exam shall comprise of 3 sections which can be attempted in candidate’s preferred sequence.
  • The duration of the exam is two hours.
  • 120 questions are to be answered within the stipulated time, for which, candidates will be awarded 3 marks each for every correct answer. No negative marking is applicable.

NMAT 2019 Result

GMAC will release the result for NMAT 2019 in the 3rd week of January 2020. Candidates can obtain their scores from the official website using their user id and password. The details mentioned in NMAT by GMAC 2019 score card will be as follows:

How is NMAT Score Calculated?

NMAT score is calculated in 3 ways:

  • Scaled Score- All the test forms will be put together for comparison to decide on the raw score obtained in the test by the applicants on a common scale.
  • Historical Percentile Ranking- The historical percentile ranking is percentile score relative to the previous year score of the candidates. The pool candidates appearing for the test may change but the score obtained finally by the last pool of candidates is considered while preparing the current score. Therefore, the ranking secured by any candidate is called historical percentile ranking as it is the ranking which the candidate has obtained relative to the past year score.
  • Final Percentile Score- This is the final score of the candidate. Candidates can obtain them from the official website of NMAT by GMAC.

NMAT by GMAC 2019 Answer Key

  • NMAT by GMAC 2019 Answer Key will be released soon after the exams are over.
  • Candidates who appear for the exam can check the official website.
  • It must be noted that the candidates’ answer sheets are also available to download.
  • Thus, candidates are advised to download their NMAT by GMAC 2019 answer sheet as soon as released so that they can match their responses with official answer key and analyze their performance in the entrance exam.
  • In order to download official NMAT by GMAC 2019 Answer key, candidates will have to enter their registration number and password.

NMAT 2019 Selection Process

The selection process of NMAT 2019 comprises of 3 stages:

  • Marks scored in NMAT 2019
  • Case Discussion
  • Personal Interview

Once a candidate qualifies the cut off, he is called for case discussion (also known as group discussion). Candidates are asked to present their case among a group of people on the given topic. Shortlisted candidates are called for Personal Interview.

During preparation of final merit list, work experience is also considered. Selected candidates can download their call letter from the official website.

NMAT 2019- Interesting Facts

Given below are statistics observed in NMAT 2016. A similar trend is expected to be followed this year too.

  1. Going by the above pie-chart, NMAT 2016 saw a whopping number of female candidates (38.72%). This was more than half of the male registrations (61.20%).
  1. Interestingly, maximum number of examinees belonged to the engineering field (53.56%). NMAT 2016 debunked a classic B-school stereotype by recording an impressive 46.44% registrations from candidates with non-engineering backgrounds.
  1. In NMAT 2016, candidates registered from all over the country. Most registrations were from the Western states (35.03%).
  2. 1.53% of NMAT 2016 registrants had worked in the industry before opting for formal management education.

Ques. What is updated paper pattern for NMAT 2019?

ANS- NMAT is divided into 3 sections namely Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. Each section is timed according to the questions asked and the candidates need to answer questions of each section within the allotted time.

Ques. What is the procedure to recheck or review the completed section?

ANS- A candidate has the liberty to review the section which they have in hand on the allotted time limit only. A candidate can recheck and change their answer in the given time. If he manages to complete the section before the time limit gets over, they can as well review it.

Once a test taker has moved ahead from one section to the next section, then they will not be able to return to the previous section so it is advised that the candidate must complete the test and review it properly in the allotted time period only

Ques. If a candidate manages to complete a particular section before the allotted time, will he get the benefit of the extra time left from the completed section in the next one?

ANS- NO, extra time will not be added to the time limit of next section. A candidate can either revise his or her work or can just move to the next section to complete the test faster.

Ques. What are the ID proofs that are accepted at the test centers and the ones which the candidates will not be allowed to be brought?

ANS- You need to carry the below documents at the exam hall:

  1. Confirmation email printout.
  2. Admit Card: Candidates are required to download their NMAT Admit Card from their account.
  3. One photocopy of the Photo ID for submission at the test center.
  4. Any other document as advised by the authorities for differently able candidates.
  5. Passport

Ques. What is a 75-Day window to test?

  • ANS- 75-day window helps Candidates reduces the stress associated with a single sitting test or test offered in a short time window.
  • The longer test window helps a candidate to take the test when they are best prepared and avoid any mishaps as well as to provide the candidate to reschedule the test in case of an emergency.
  • The longer window also provides the test taker with the opportunity to retake the test (maximum 3 attempts, including “No Show”) in case they feel that their performance was not up to the mark or for any reason or if they feel they can improve their performance in retake attempt.

Ques. Is there any specific Eligibility Criteria for candidates to sit for NMAT?

ANS- NO, There are no specifications but different colleges and universities do have their individual norms and regulations. Candidates are advised to visit the website of the college or university in order to be through the criteria.

Ques. Does it takes more time to complete the computerized test as compared to the paper version?

ANS- It is usually experienced that it takes less time to complete the computer-based test. There are no test booklets and answer sheets to manage and no need to transfer answers manually to an answer sheet w

Ques. what are the activities that are considered incorrect inside the test center?

ANS- Candidates are not supposed to do the following things in the exam centers-

  • Hiring someone to take the test on your behalf
  • Taking the test for someone else
  • Memorizing and sharing test questions
  • Copying, asking or sharing answers with others during or after the administration of the test
  • Carrying any prohibited item to the examination hall
  • Receiving, discussing or disclosing exam content via text message, e-mail, in an internet “chat room” message board, or any other forum, before, during the exam.

Ques. What should be done if the computer malfunctions during the test?

ANS- If some mishap happens, the teaching staff will re-boot the computer. The answers marked by the candidates will be stored and the time clock will stop. As soon as the computer is back to normal, the candidate can resume from where he/she left.

After the registration is done the candidate will receive an e-mail their registration and candidates then can schedule their exams through the scheduling exam tab in candidate dashboard available in the account of the candidates.

Ques. How many times can a candidate take NMAT?

ANS- A candidate can take the test for maximum 3 times.

Ques. When will GMAC declare the window-wise results for NMAT?

ANS- Within 4 to 6 weeks of the test taken.

Ques. In NMAT, what is meant by scaled scores and percentile scores?

ANS- Scaled scores – it is when the test forms are equated to account for any differences in overall difficulty and the raw test scores are placed on a common scale.

Percentile scores – The percentile rank or score shows a comparison drawn between the candidate’s scores with all other candidates who took the exam.

Ques. Is there a provision to send the scores directly to the candidates?

ANS- NO, there is no provision to send the score cards directly to the candidates. The candidates will be notified by an Email and the scores will be available after 4 to 5 weeks of the exam.

Ques. is there a provision of rough sheet provided to the candidate for doing extra calculations or rough work?

ANS- Candidates are advised not to carry any extra material with them other than required as provision of rough sheets will be done to candidate in the examination hall only.

Ques. what are the timings for NMAT?

ANS- Timings for the test are mentioned on the admit card and the candidates are advised to reach 45 minutes before the exam for a candidate to enter. Candidates who reach 15 minutes after the entry time will not be allowed to take the test.

Ques. How does FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis effect a candidate’s registration for the test?

ANS- “First come First serve” principle applies to both registration and scheduling and can influence big time. The earlier a candidate registers and makes payment, the earlier will be able to schedule the test and the chances of getting a preferred date, time and test location will increase.

Ques. Can editing or changes be done in the application form once it is submitted?

ANS- Sections like School Preference and Communication Preferences can only be edited by the candidate even after submitting the registration fee. Candidates will not be allowed to make any changes after the fee submission so it is advised to go twice with the registration form before submitting

Ques. What is the specification related to documents to be uploaded in the application form?

ANS- Candidates are allowed to keep their photographs in the following format-

  • Photos should be in JPG, PNG, and GIF format only.
  • No landscaped or rotated pictures are allowed
  • Size should not exceed 1 MB.
  • The photo should have either white or lightly colored background.

Ques. What are the best internet providers for a smooth registration?

ANS- It is advised that the candidates must use Internet Explorer v.6.0 and above, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

Ques. How many times can a candidate register for the test?

ANS- Test takers are not allowed to make duplicate/ multiple registrations which can lead to cancellation of the candidature and also fortification of Fee paid.

Ques. What is the procedure that allows the candidate to take a re-test?

ANS- Retake option will be enabled in the candidates existing registration account after taking the first test once the candidate pays the application fee from the payment modes available. The option to retake test is present in the Retake tab in the dashboard of a candidate’s account.

Ques. What is the procedure that allows a candidate to reschedule?

ANS- A candidate can decide to reschedule his / her test within a period of 72 hours before the scheduled test and can re-schedule it to a different date, time and test center, subject to availability, by paying an additional fee which is through Credit Card only.

Candidates will receive a confirmation e-mail if the re-scheduled test has been approved. Seats availability and availability of test center is on first come first serve basis.

Ques. Can a candidate take 2 exams in 2 consecutive days?

ANS- NO, the candidates are not allowed to take. A candidate must wait for 15 days before retaking the test.
