Job Profile:
IBPS Clerks must join the allotted bank within the given time duration and the respected banks provide them training about the tasks that need to perform while working as Bank Clerks. Those who complete their training successfully will be posted to the different branches of the concerned bank to survive and complete their next two years of probation. So, initially, IBPS Clerks are posted at Junior Level and after completing their 2 years of the probation period, they can be promoted to the upper level.
SBI Clerks are initially designated at Junior Level Grade and after completing their 6 months of training, they can be promoted to the Officer Level. To get the officer grade, they must qualify the Internal Exam conducted based on the structure decided throughout all the branches of the bank.
Selection Process:
Both IBPS and SBI Clerk exams are held in two phases. Phase-I is Prelims and Phase-II is main exam. However, in SBI Clerk, the exams are followed by an interview.

The salary structure of IBPS Clerk & SBI Clerk is almost similar but SBI has some additional allowances, therefore, the salary of an SBI Clerk is INR 2000 more than the in-hand salary payable to an IBPS Clerk Officer.

IBPS Clerk: The bank Clerks will be promoted to Officer Cadre in 3-4 years. The clerks can reach the Senior Management position after 20-25 years of working.
SBI Clerk: In case of SBI, there is a high chance of getting promoted as Trainee Officer in just 3-4 years. Trainee Officer is equivalent to Probationary Officer. Working in SBI provides more exposure compared to other PSBs.
IBPS Clerk is for those who want a job with a decent salary, job security and limited work pressure and responsibilities and SBI Clerk for aspirants looking for a challenging job, who can cope with extra work pressure, wish to earn more and reach a high position in lesser time.
Postings:
IBPS Clerk: Since most PSBs have lesser number of branches across the country compared to SBI, the chances of getting posted near your home/native place is less.
SBI Clerk: SBI has a vast outreach compared to other PSB’s, you will find an SBI at every nook and corner across the country, hence you can be posted anywhere in the country. On the flip side, chances of you getting posted increases because of number of branches.
Promotions:
The 1st promotion can be made after completing 2 to 3 years in SBI. The promotion for SBI Clerk can be done in two ways – ‘In-Cadre Promotions & Officer Cadre Promotions’.

IBPS Clerk: After completing the probation period of 2 years, the candidates can be promoted in two ways –
- The candidates must appear in the written test conducted inter banks and qualify it based on his/her experience & knowledge. (No JAIIB & CAIIB Diploma applicable)
On the qualification of written test, a clerk can be promoted to the position of Trainee Officer.
- Based on the JAIIB, CAIIB qualification, and Graduation + Post Graduation Mark sheets, the Clerks can be promoted to the position of Trainee Officer or PO.
