Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology was established in the year 1980 by Panchajanya Vidyapeeta Welfare Trust (PVPWT) Bangalore. PVPWT is founded by Late Sri. M. H. Jayaprakash Narayan. The Institution was started with Three AICTE approved undergraduate (UG) programmes in Departments of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE).
Later UG programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Instrumentation Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Information Science and Engineering and Medical Electronics, were also inducted. In addition, the institution currently also holds 14 research centers recognized by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. ),
The Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology has grown manifold with a total student intake of 1285 pursuing courses in ten undergraduate, ten postgraduate programmes (PG) of engineering including MBA, MCA and MSc (Engg.) by research/Doctoral Programmes.
The Institution is aided by Government of Karnataka, approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and is affiliated to VTU, Belagavi. The institution is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with ‘A’ Grade.
The Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology was granted with Autonomous Status by UGC during 2007 and the college implemented the same during 2010-11 academic year. The Institute has ISO 9001:2008 certification and all departments are accredited by NBA, New Delhi.
The Institution has a sufficient built-up area. with a large number of spacious, well ventilated class rooms, smart class rooms with e-learning facilities, Laboratories, Data Center, Virtual Instrumentation Laboratory(Lab VIEW), English Language Laboratory, Workshops, Drawing Halls, Seminar Halls, Library and Information Center, Sports Complex, Music Room and Auditorium.

Eligibility for UG and PG Courses :
- Candidates must have scored a minimum of 45% marks in 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics, English and Chemistry / Biology or Computer Science for B.E program.
- Selection of the candidates is based on KCET or COMEDK UGET score followed by counselling.
- For MBA program, the basic eligibility criterion is a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subjects with at least 50% aggregate marks. However, for MCA, the candidates must have Mathematics as a compulsory subject at 10+2 level.
- The selection of the candidates in MBA and MCA is based on the score of PGCET 2019.
Admission in B.Tech requires a B.E., / B.Tech degree in the relevant stream from VTU or any other recognized university. - The selection of the candidates is based on GATE 2019 score.
- For Ph.D. programs, the candidates have to secure a Master’s degree in Engineering and Technology or relevant subjects from any recognized university.
- Final selection is performed on the basis of GATE/UGC-NET or CSIR-NET scores.

Examination System
Examination section has been housed in the main building in a separate floor. The civil infrastructure of the Examination Cell consists of Strong room, Office cabin for controller of examination
Assessment hall for assessing answer-books and working space for supporting staff. Conventional and Wi-Fi net connectivity, adequate number of computer systems and printers as well as a photocopying machine have been provided to Exam Cell for proper and efficient functioning of the exam cell.
