Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology (CIT) runs under the auspices of Sri Channabasaveshwara Swamy Rural Education Society (CRED Society). The society was established in 2000 under the Chairmanship of Sri G.S.Basavaraj, the honourable Member of Parliament from Tumkur with a vision to create centres of excellence in education and other related fields and to serve the society to enhance the quality of life through excellence and leadership in professionally relevant education.
Sri Channabasaveshwara Swamy Rural Education Society (CREDS) started in the year 2000 with a vision of providing education of international standards, catering to the needs of the surrounding rural populace. The CIT campus is housed in a sprawling area adjoining the National Highway 206 (B.H. Road), Tumkur near Bangalore, which is one of the major centers for Engineering & Medical Studies. The campus is well connected by excellent services through road, rail and air. The location also has direct link by roads to important cities like Mysore, Shimoga, Hassan and Mangalore.
CIT was established in the year 2001 with the objective of providing quality technical education. The institute is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and Recognized by Government of Karnataka. The institute is ISO 9001:2015 Certified and Accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The Institute is located near Gubbi, Tumkur, ~ 80 KM from Bangalore on National Highway 206. The Campus spreads across 60 Acres of lush green land with beautiful landscaping. The area enjoys pleasant atmosphere throughout the year. 4. Research
CIT, as a matter of policy, encourages research by faculty members and provides incentives for research resulting in publications and patents. CIT encourages the faculty to compete for external research funding. Experts from reputed research groups from all over the world are invited routinely to deliver guest lectures to provide broader exposure for the students and faculty.
5. International linkages
CIT has signed a MoU with the University of Alabama, Birmingham, USA and The National Crash Analysis Center of The George Washington University, Washington DC, USA. Under this international linkage, CIT not only provides an opportunity for exchange of scholarly material and opportunity for collaborative research but also provides a platform for deserving students to pursue higher education at these institutions.
Admissions at Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology
CIT offers under-graduate (B.E.,) and post-graduate (M.Tech. & Master of Business Administration (MBA)) programs. The academic year normally commences in the month of August/September. Admission to the institute is made in accordance with the prescribed rules of Government of Karnataka for all categories of candidates. Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) of Govt. of Karnataka administers under-graduate admission for the qualifying students.
All post-graduate admissions are made through one of the common entrance tests for M.Tech. (PGCET/GATE) and for Master of Business Administration (MBA) (PGCET/KMAT/MAT).
Other students seeking admission to any of the programs are required to apply directly to the institute under management quota. Candidates desirous of applying to CIT (B.E., M.Tech., & Master of Business Administration (MBA) Courses) under Management quota should send completed applications to the Secretary/Director, CIT, NH-206 (B.H. Road), Gubbi, Tumkur – 572 216, Karnataka before the last date for admission fixed by the State Government & Universities, based on entrance test and filling up of seats by the KEA. The candidates may also submit their application forms online. The following documents should be enclosed while submitting the application, failing which the application will be rejected.

- Copy of P.U.C (10+2) Marks Card.
- Copy of Transfer Certificate.
- Copy of Migration Certificate for Non-Karnataka Students.

Facilities provided by Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology
1. Library- A spacious and well stacked Learning Resource Centre is available to the staff & students, consisting of a large collection of books pertaining to Engineering, Management & Applied Sciences. The collection is continuously updated to cater the growing needs of faculty and students. Various technical journals are subscribed for the benefit of the students & faculty. Online access to e-resources has been set-up via IP enabling. The reading section of the library, with subscription to many periodicals, is kept open for staff and students even after normal working hours.
2. IT Facilities-Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology has well established state-of-the-art Computer Centres housing over 750 computer systems, connected over LAN. Internet connectivity of 10 Mbps leased line round the clock is available.
Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology is a WiFi Enabled campus. Dedicated lab for internet browsing with high end computers are available round the clock for the benefit of students.
Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology has a Campus Agreement with Microsoft Inc. for all the genuine Microsoft products being used for Academic & Research purposes.
3. Classrooms– The classrooms are spread across 3 buildings. Each classroom is well lit and can accommodate more than 80 students. The seating arrangement is such that the students can get an unhindered view of the faculty and teaching aids from all sides. Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology has brought technology into most of the classrooms for effective presentation of course material. Many of the classrooms are equipped with ceiling mounted LCD projector.
4. Auditorium– A well furnished auditorium which can accommodate more than 500 students is centrally located on the campus. The auditorium is routinely used for guest lectures, technical seminars, pre-placement training and extra-curricular activities.
5. Board room– IA state-of-the-art well furnished boardroom is located in the Administrative block. Although, the boardroom is primarily used to host meetings with dignitaries, it is also used as a podium for presentations and interactions with invited speakers and our own Post-graduate students.
6. Hostel– Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology runs separate hostels for boys & girls. The boys-hostel is located on-campus while the girls-hostel is located off-campus. The hostels are managed by a warden assisted by a deputy warden residing within the hostel premises. All the hostel rooms are well furnished and healthy food is served. The students are strictly expected to abide by the rules and regulations of the hostels. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited. Any deviation from the rules and regulations will result in disciplinary action which may include expulsion from the institute.
7. Cafeteria – A brand new state-of-the-art cafeteria hygienically maintained caters to the needs of the staff and students. It serves nutritional and balanced food throughout the day. It is a place for the tired minds to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and engage in intellectual discussions.
8. Transportation– The Institute owns several buses that operate from various parts of the city to the campus for the benefit of staff and students. At present, there are 26 buses dedicated for transportation. The buses pick up students and staff from several centralized locations in the city close to many residential neighbourhoods. Students and staff are utilizing the precious commute time to discuss/debate various topics ranging from current news, academics, research and project work.
9. Sports– A well established Physical Education Department is available to cater to the needs of the students. The Institute offers facilities for Sports and Extra Curricular activities. Students are encouraged to participate in inter-collegiate sports programmes, co-curricular and cultural activities. The Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology cricket ground is approved by Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and is routinely used to host league matches. Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology hosts an annual staple cricket tournament under the banner of CIT Cup.

The college got its due recognition during 11th National Education Summit and Awards held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi recently, where CIT was conferred with “The Best Engineering College in Rural India” award.
Our ethos lies in developing our society through value based education. 4 years of B.E program, which is affiliated to Visvesvarya Technology University(VTU), Belagavi, are tailored for high performing and industry ready engineers. The course structure and pedagogy are designed to provide students with the best engineering education and practical experience. Government of India recognized vocational training centre at Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology ensures students acquire relevant skills, apart from knowledge, before graduating from the academia. Also, adequate platforms are provided to students to exhibit their technical as well as soft skills. Knowledge Network Workshop (K-NEW) is one such national event hosted by Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology for the benefit of students. The legacy of placement department in CIT is highly commendable. It is credited for hosting probably India’s first workshop exclusively for Training and Placement Officers way back in 2005.
