Department of Computer Science and Engineering

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was established in the year 2005 with the mission to educate students from all over India and other countries, including those from rural areas, so that they become enlightened individuals, improving the living standards of their Families, Industry and Society. The aggressive rigor in program with industry and research influenced high quality curriculum, has rendered this program as one of the most sought after undergraduate programs in the country.
The department has very highly accomplished faculty, including PhD s from premier institutes in India. The department has good record on placements. The department also runs M Tech in Computer Science and Engineering and Doctoral degree programs. More than 40 research papers have been published by the department faculties in the International journals and various National or International Conference proceedings. It is a matter of pride for the department that UMESHA C S secured 1st Rank and topped the university in the year 2012.
The Department is well equipped with diversified laboratories including a dedicated laboratory for Project work, installed with a variety of software catering to the need of the students and covering the curriculum specified by the affiliated University. The laboratories include Electronic circuits and Logic design Lab, Data structures lab, Algorithms lab, Microprocessor lab, Database lab, System software and Operating systems lab, Unix system programming and Compiler design lab, Computer Graphics lab, Networking lab and Web programming lab.
Tests are conducted once in a month and the students are counseled and motivated to give in their best performance. Feedback is obtained regularly from the students. Staff are appraised by the students, self, Head of the Department and the Head of the Institution.

Information Science and Engineering

Scope for Civil Engineers
Civil engineers with an academic bent of mind can go on to obtain their Masters and PhD degrees and enter the world of research and teaching. Other civil graduates can find work at all levels of the economy. There are opportunities in small consulting firms
including those specializing in structural, environmental, municipal and geotechnical
engineering and some work in larger firms which encompass several branches of civil
engineering. Civil engineers can also work at national, state and municipal levels of the
government. They can also start their own business. Opportunities abound in varying
aspects of engineering like Bioengineering, Coastal Engineering, Environmental
Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering,

1. Computing & Internet
The computer resource centre is equipped with computing resources and facilities both in the form of best hardware and supportive software which are maintained and updated with precision. The cyber centre, which boasts of a number of computers, as high as a hundred, all of Intel Core i3 systems and networked with high speed LAN to serve a host of applications. These workstations are connected to the internet via central browser to facilitate free flow of information. The centre has the latest software and multimedia packages, MIS systems and internet facilities. The platforms and application software has been configured to research and industrial specific requirements.

Well equipped Computer lab
To keep in pace with technology for teaching and training for the students sufficient computers are available in the lab for the students with the 4 Mbps Broad Band Connection and LAN facility.The lab consists of 500 computers connected through LAN and has all the required legal software as per the university syllabus.

Well equipped modern lab with all safety measures for the safeguard of the students. Individual attention for all students to instrumentationl analysis.

Well equipped modern lab with all infrastructural facilities as per the norms. Individual equipments to each & every students. The major equipments are Spectrometer, Travelling microscope & many more optical instruments.
3. Library and Information Center
Library Introduction the BGSIT Library System consists of a Central Library which supports the teaching, research and extension programmes of the Institute. All students, faculty members and employees of the Institute are entitled to make use of the Library facilities on taking library membership. The Library has a huge collection of books on engineering, science, humanities & as well as various journals, magazines & newspapers are also subscribed.
Library Service’s:
Text books :
Text books are most reliable source of information to the Faculty and the Students of B G S Institute of Technology especially for course/syllabus related reading. The section has approximately 20500 syllabus related text books. The books for this section are purchased generally on the recommendation from different faculty members through the concerned Head of the Department. The timings for issuing the books from the Text Book Section are from 9 PM to 5 PM during Monday to Friday. The books of this section may be returned back during 9 AM to 5 PM only. A total no. 3 of books are issued from the section at a time.
Reference:
Readers may approach the Reference and Membership Desk for information or any assistance in the use of the Library Collections and Services. Users may contact Computer Applications Division for the computerized services, CD ROM Based Search Services and Web-based electronic journals. For special information requirements, users may also reach incharges of Readers Services/Serials Division or the Librarian.
Periodical:
A good number of journals and magazines both technical and general in nature are subscribed to library. Latest issues will be displayed as and when received.
Bibliographic :
The library has prepared a list of Reference Books for the benefit of user community. Booklet containing the details of all reference oriented documents will publish.
CD-Rom :
The CD-ROMs received along with books/journals/conferences are available in the Reference Section and the facility can be availed from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on all working days.
Inter-Library Loan(ILL):
The books of our library will be sent to various our institute libraries on Inter Library Loan as per the request from our institute Libraries. The library also used to get some books Inter Library Loan basis from other our institute libraries as request by our users.
Photostat copy:
The Library has entrusted the responsibility of extending Xerox facility inside the Library. The Library document will be xeroxed within the Library for the benefit of the users.
News paper clippings:
Important and relevant information published in dailies will be displayed on library notice board regularly and the same will be updated once in a month on library website.
Question bank:
Previous years VTU Question papers are arranged subject wise in multiple copies and will be provided to users to take photocopies on request. The soft copy of question papers are available on library website which is downloadable.
OPAC:
Open Public Access Catalouge: OPAC contains over 30,000 bibliographic records, with more records being added on a daily basis. It is one of the most widely used databases of the library and is accessible 24×7 via library web page. Besides listing all the documents available in the library, it allows on-line renewal and reservation, circulation, fine collection, and indicates status of a particular book. The OPAC is searchable & allows users searching by any combination of author, title, subject/keywords, accession number, subject and several other fields of methods.
4. Sports
BGSIT provides spacious playground consisting of Basketball Court, Football, Tennis, Shuttle Badminton Courts, Volleyball Courts, Cricket grounds and a 400- meter Athletic Track. A well equipped modern Multi- Gym has been housed in the campus for the benefit of staff and students. Faculty is associated with the sports activities for their smooth conduction. Those who excel in any sports activities are given certificates, prizes and awards. Inter-departmental Competitions and Tournaments are organized in all sports activities. These teams participate in Inter-University and Inter- Collegiate Tournaments.

Bus facility is available from Mandya, Mysore and Bangalore cities to college campus
6. Hostel
Girls Hostel
The girls hostel has capacity for 350 students. Each student is provided with an almirah, cot, table & chair as well as English & Hindi newspapers. The students are taken care by providing daily three meals, T.V. for their entertainment .Sweet dish and special diet are provided on Saturdays & Sundays. The hostel timings are from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. The students are also provided with 24 hrs. telephone & Internet facility. There is a movement register for the inmates which is strictly followed. The hostel is guarded by 24 hrs security guard.
Boys Hostel
The boys hostel has initial capacity for 400 students. The students taking admission in 1st year are encouraged to reside in hostel so that they are safe from ragging. Each student is provided with an almirah, cot, table & chair as well as English & Hindi newspapers. There is T.V. & sports (both indoor & outdoor games) for their entertainment. There is in-house Multi-Gym for those who want to keep themselves fit & healthy and 24 hrs Telephone & Internet facility. They are given three times meals per day & special diet on weekends. The students make use of college bus in attending college daily. There is 24 hrs facility for security guard.
Training and Placement Cell
The College has a separate Training and Placement cell managed by a dedicated team. The cell acts as a linker for the Industrial Training and Placement of students. The Training and Placement cell establishes contacts with industrial houses to arrange training and placement of the students. The Training and Placement cell guides and helps the Final year students in securing jobs with their knowledge and achievements, by organizing campus Interviews and exploring various avenues for their placement. The cell extends all possible helps and provides all available infrastructure facilities to the organizations and their respective officials conducting campus interviews in the college campus. The cell also prepares placement brochure in print and electronic format and further distribution to relevant industry and job providers.
A separate full fledged Training & Placement cell is established in the Institute. The cell has made significant progress in a short span of time. It is in progress from the day one and has been successful to equip students to face written tests, group discussions & HR Interviews. CEOs & Head Recruiters of a choice of Multi National Companies were invited on various occasions to increase the brand image of B G S Institute of Technology.
Aims & Objectives

The institute is equipped with a conference hall for holding Pre-Placement Talk, well furnished rooms for conducting interviews. The Placement Office is fully computerized it uses desktop computers and Institute LAN facility for placement data handling and communication.
Soft Skills:
Today’s competitive work environment Corporate demands a person with good interpersonal skills, team building skills, leadership qualities, creative skills, negotiation skills and ability to manage time, stress and crisis situations. The English Lab seeks to fulfil this requirement through an activity-based course ware which includes group activities, games, role plays and questionnaires. Resume writing, mock interviews and group discussions are taken up to in still confidence in the student and prepare him for career and life ahead. To facilitate the students in soft skills such as Communication skills, Group Discussions & Interviews, a widespread training programme on “Aptitude Related Communication Skills” was conducted.These efforts have enhanced students’ employability, overall development and yielded considerable increase in placements.
Aptitude Lab:
The Training & Placement Cell conducts Aptitude, Foundations, Quantitative, Reasoning, Verbal, Mathematical Ability, Language Skills, Technical Skills, & Mock Tests, for students to prepare them for aptitude tests and help them clear the first round of the corporate recruitment process successfully and move to next round of GD / Interviews.
Career Lab:
Students go through Personality Assessment Tests, Presentation Skills, Group Discussion, Interview & Assertiveness, to understand their interests. This unique feature facilitates our students to have a cutting edge in all fronts. Apart from regular training, cell also invites reputed Institutions who are engaged in training students to face the difference competitive examination like GATE/UPSC/MPSC/ GRE/CAT/GMAT/ TOFEL/KAS/IAS, etc., to help the students interested in pursuing higher education. Communication Lab:
The Communication Lab has been designed to help students to communicate effectively and succeed in both their professional and personal life. The course focuses on molding the personality of the students by enhancing their communicative competence and interpersonal skills to fulfil its primary objective that is placements. The Communication Lab concentrates on these skills, initially to build confidence in the students. Business correspondence, effective vocabulary, presentation skills and soft skills have been included to fine-tune the students to meet the exacting expectations of the corporate world.
