Scholarship Examination in India

UGC NET 2019 will be held by the University Grants Commission, Government of India. The UGC NET examination is held for selecting candidates for various Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship positions at various educational institutions. The examination will be held in two sessions in a year, July and December. From 2018 onwards, the responsibility of conducting National Eligibility Test has been transferred from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to National Testing Agency (NTA), a newly formed government body. A total of 8 lakh candidates appeared for the previous year of UGC NET examination. The NTA has brought some changes to the examination pattern and the details have been provided below.

Important Dates of UGC NET 2019

Candidates interested in writing UGC NET 2019 examination in any of the two sessions must keep the following dates in mind. Candidates can apply for both the sessions to increase their likelihood of getting a teaching or research position.

Eligibility Criteria

Interested candidates must check the following eligibility criteria in order to apply for the examination. Relaxation on any of the eligibility criteria will not be provided under any circumstances. Only candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will be given an admit card to write the examination:

  • The applicants must have a minimum of postgraduate or any other equivalent degree from a recognised university. Final year candidates of their respective postgraduate degree are also eligible to apply for the examination.
  • For general category candidates, they must have secured a minimum of 55% in their post-graduate education. A relaxation of 5% has been given for candidates belonging to SC, ST or OBC candidates.
  • Applying candidates must no be older than 30 years before January 1st of 2020. There is no upper age limit for an Assistant professor position. A relaxation of 5 years is provided for reserved category candidates or candidates with research experience. 3 years relaxation is given for candidates with an LLM degree.

How to apply for UGC NET 2019

If the candidate meets all the required eligibility criteria, they can proceed with the following application process in order to successfully apply for the UGC NET 2019 examination. The applications must be filled before the deadline date and only completely filled applications will be considered and provided with an admit card. The application procedure is as follows:

  1. Go to the official website of National Testing Agency (NTA) and click of the National Eligibility Test 2019 link.
  2. Register for an account if you haven’t already done so. You can register for an account by clicking on the “New Candidate Registration” option.
  3. Before proceeding to fill up the application form, the candidate must read all the instructions carefully. Proceed only if you agree with all the terms and conditions.
  4. Enter all the details in the necessary fields. Only provide correct information, as in the case of any provision of false information, the application will be summarily dismissed.
  5. Upon providing all the details click on the SUBMIT button. The application number will be provided after pressing the button.
  6. Upload a scanned image of your passport size photograph and signature. The size and dimensions of the images must be similar to the requirements provided in the document.
  7. Pay the required application fees through any of the online payments methods. The provision for offline payment method is also provided. Application fees for general category candidates are ₹800, for OBC candidates the application fees are ₹400, and for SC, ST and OBC category the application fees are ₹200.
  8. After payments of fees, the page will then transition to the confirmation page, which the candidate then has to take a printout of. The printout of the confirmation page will be required while entering the examination hall.

Exam Pattern

Candidates must be aware of exam pattern in order to better prepare themselves for the upcoming examination. It also helps us avoid any surprises at the time of writing the examination. The UGC NET 2019 will consist of two papers both will be held on the same day, split into morning and evening sessions. As mentioned in the Introduction section, after the National Testing Agency has taken over the UGC NET, they have bought over some changes in the examination pattern. Marking Scheme For both the papers

+2 marks provided for every correct answer,

No negative marks are provided for the wrong answer.

The admit card will be provided on June or November of their respective sessions. The candidates can take their respective admit cards from the official website of the National Testing Agency. The admit cards will be given only to candidates who have provided the complete and correct details. Candidates are requested to take a printout of the admit card to provide at the time of writing the examination.

Answer Key and Results

The answer key will be released after the commencement of the examination. The candidates can look into the answer key from the official NTA examination. The answer key for both the papers will be released after the same time. In case of any disagreements with any of the answers provided in the answer key, the candidate can register a complaint about correcting the mistake. Only complains provided before the declaration of the results will be accepted.

The announcement of the results will be done through the official websites of NTA and other news portals. The minimum required cutoff for various JRF positions will be declared along with the results. The results can be viewed from the official website of National Testing Agency. The candidate has to log in to the portal using the registration number and password provided at the time of the application. The candidate must have secured a minimum of 40% over both the papers in order to be eligible to apply for Junior Research Fellowship as well as Assistant Professor positions.
